OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Newman wrestling team traveled to participate in the Oklahoma City Open this Sunday. Three freshmen had fantastic weekends placing in their divisions; Reece Wright-Conklin placed third while Colton Duhr and Miles Johns both placed second.

Duhr competed in the Freshman/Sophomore Division where he went 3-1. Duhr was undefeated until the final match, starting off with an 8-0 win against Oklahoma City's Jamie Shawver, then a 11-4 decision over Central Oklahoma's Aaron Gillman followed by a 5-4 decision over Labette Community College's Jeromy Davenport. In the finals, Labette Community College's Aaron Seybold defeated Duhr in a 7-0 decision.

Johns was another successful Jet staying undefeated till the championship round. Starting the event with a 2:30 pin against Antonio Martinez followed by a 2:47 pin against Pratt Community College's Garrett Port, Johns then made it to the finals after a 7-3 decision against Labette Community College's Jared Trotter. Johns fell to Labette's Tyler Davis in a 6-4 decision.

Wright-Conklin finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and a third place finish in the 174 class open division. Starting the event with a bye, Wright-Conklin loss to Oklahoma State's Kyle Crutchmer in a 5-3 decision, this put Wright-Conklin in the wrestleback bracket. Wright-Conklin then worked his way through to pin Oklahoma State's Teagan Franco at the 2:22 mark earning the third place finish.

For the Open Division, JP Carter started things off for the Jets in the 141 lb. class losing to Paz Acosta. Carter received a bye before pinning Chris Hart and winning a 6-1 decision over Trace Gutknecht; Carter then loss to Josh Durham. Next for the Newman was Alex Prine, Prine went 0-2 for the day. In the 184 lb. class, Tyler Hasenback beat Quinten Patterson in a 9-7 decision before losing to Tanner Keck in a 5-2 decision. Hasenback went to the wrestleback backet where he fell to Oklahoma State's Nolan Boyd in a 12-6 decision.

Steven Cooksley went 2-2 on Sunday; he loss to Znick Ferrell in a 4-2 decision. Cooksley then went on to beat Manual Rocha and Colton Hill before falling to Ferrell again in the wrestleback bracket. In the 285 lb. class, Lorenzo Serna beat John Demis and Elliot Taylor before falling to Gabbi Musallam and Markese Christian. Trey Grovenor went 0-2 in the 285 lb. weight class.

Newman's Kris Workman competed in the 125 lb. class losing to Alvie Killingsworth and Cooper Finch. Travis Rodenbaugh fell to the 133 lb. (Freshman/Sophomore Division) second placeman-Jared Elmore then beat Marcus Romo, Dakota Napoli and Travon Smith before losing to Juan Zorilla with an injury. Josh Lambert competed in the 133 lb. Freshman/Sophomore Division losing to Michael Williams and Jeramy Griffin.
 
The Jets will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to compete in the Central Missouri Open on Nov. 11.
