Droge Named Division II Pitcher of the Week

Brandon Droge - NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week
DALLAS, Texas- Newman pitcher Brandon Droge has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Division II National Pitcher of the Week, officials announced Wednesday. The award marks the first time for any Newman baseball player to be awarded with a National Player of the Week honor, since the Jets transitioned to NCAA Division II athletics in the 2008-09 school year.

Droge (2-1) allowed just four hits, while striking out 13 Aggies in a complete-game shutout against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday. The senior transfer from West Florida has rebounded nicely after a season-opening loss at  St. Mary's, striking out combined 20 batters, and allowing just seven combined hits in his last two starts.

Droge has also earned Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week, and NCBWA South Central Region Pitcher of the Week honors each of the last two weeks.

The Jets return to the diamond on Friday, when they open up a three-game series at Texas A&M International. First pitch of the Friday doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Laredo, Texas.
