Meet the 2012 Newman Baseball Team

The Newman baseball team opens its 2012 campaign on Saturday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on the St. Mary's Rattlers. The 2012 Jets feature a nice balance of returners and newcomers, with 16 returning letterwinners and 15 newcomers.  Get your first look at the 2012 prospective starting lineup here.

Starting Pitchers:

Kyle Burkhardt (RHP)- The senior transfer from Highland CC led Newman in strikeouts, fanning 75 batters last season.

Brandon Droge (LHP)- Led the Jets in innings pitched, throwing 91.0 innings last year and striking out 69 batters.

Jacob Furr (LHP)- The sophomore from Augusta, Kan. returns with the top ERA from last season, a 3.42 mark and a 3-1 record.

Catchers:

Jordan Ollenberger- The Wichita Collegiate product hit .267 while batting in 13 runs last season.

Ruben Marrero- The Cowley CC transfer comes to Newman after earning Second Team All-Jayhawk honors last season.

Infielders:

Corey Cowan- The senior first baseman boasts the top returning batting average at .281, while hitting three home runs last season.

Dylan Monroe- Played two seasons at Barton County CC, and is ready to make his presence known in the Heartland Conference.

Terrell Brown- Led Coffeyville CC in singles (61) last season.

Jarrod Flax- The true freshman from Fort Collins, Colo is set to make an immediate impact in the infield.

Shanan Engroff- Earned All-Jayhawk honors in his only season at Cowley CC.

Tyler Hancock- Hit .338 with three home runs and 30 runs-batted-in for Central Oklahoma last season.

Outfielders:

Ben Wagner- Saw limited time as a freshman in 2011, batting .278 in 18 at bats.

Jacob Gaul- Made 32 starts in the outfield last season, batting .257 with four stolen bases in his freshman campaign.

Tanner Vinson- The Hutch CC transfer will anchor the outfield in centerfield.

David Longmore- Started 48 games in right field, hitting .261 with 23 runs batted in.
