WICHITA - 2012 USBC Intercollegiate Women's Singles Champion Georgia Drewes was honored by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission at its annual banquet Thursday evening at the Hyatt Regency in Wichita. Drewes received a special award for her performance in the singles championship in April.

"This whole year was just awesome for the Newman bowling program," Drewes said during her acceptance speech. "Wichita is an awesome bowling city with two great college programs, and I hope I helped put the spotlight back on the Newman."

Drewes capped her senior season by becoming Newman's second USBC Intercollegiate Women's Singles Champion, and the first since Newman assistant coach Bianca Montagnino-Simmons won the title in 2005. She was also a crucial part of a 2012 Jets squad, which won its first tournaments in program history during the 2012 season.
