Jets Receive First-Ever Bid to NCAA Tournament

Newman men's basketball received its first-ever berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament, announced tonight (March 10) by the NCAA Selection Show. The Jets will take on Midwestern State on Saturday (March 16) at host Metro State in Denver.
 
Newman is the No. 5 seed in the South Central Region and plays the No. 4 seed Midwestern State of the Lone Star Conference. MSU is 21-8 and won the Lone Star Conference regular season title with a 14-4 record. The Mustangs finished as the runner-up in the LSC Tournament, falling 53-50 to Tarleton State in the championship game.
 
The regional will be hosted by Metro State, who won the RMAC regular season and conference tournament. Metro State is 27-2 and defeated No. 22 Fort Lewis, 61-60 in the RMAC Tournament Championship on Saturday (March 9). Metro State takes on No. 8 Tarleton State in the first round.
 
St. Mary's is the No. 2 seed after winning the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship. The Rattlers play No. 7 Cameron of the Lone Star Conference.
 
Fort Lewis of the RMAC is the No. 3 seed. They take on fellow RMAC member No. 6 seed Adams State.
 
This will be the Jets first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
The South Central Regional will be played Saturday (March 16), Sunday (March 17) and Tuesday (March 19) at Metro State in Denver.
