WACO, Texas – For the fourth time this season, senior
Rubi Torres has been named the Heartland Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced today (Oct. 13) by the Heartland Conference. Torres earned the honor on Sept. 8, 22 and 29 along with today.
For the second straight race, Torres finished in first place. Torres ran an 18:29 in the 5k at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 11). The senior from Great Bend, Kan. won the race by 8 seconds over Madison Brown of Central Oklahoma. She helped the Lady Jets to a third place finish behind UCO and Rogers State, and NU finished in front of Heartland Conference foes Oklahoma Christian.
In four races this season, Torres has won two of them – the Emporia State Invitational and Oklahoma Baptist Invitational. At the Missouri Southern Stampede, she set the NU school record in the 5k, and the Lady Jets placed first as a team in the JK Gold Classic to start the season.
The Lady Jets return to action on Saturday (Oct. 18) at the Tiger Open, hosted by Fort Hays State in Victoria, Kan.
