MCPHERSON, Kan. –
Max Pyle and
Ajani King won the doubles championship at the McPherson College Doubles Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 3). The duo went 3-0 on the day to take the crown. McPherson, Rockhurst and Barton CC all had teams in the tournament field.
Pyle and King started with an 8-2 win over Ray Strunk and Javier Fernandez of Barton CC. In the semifinals, the pair defeated a duo from Rockhurst by the score of 8-2 to advance to the championship. The finals were a close match as the Jet duo won, 9-7, over McPherson's Rafael Bulnes and Joan-Marc Fajula Rodiguez, who was nationally ranked in the NAIA singles and doubles ITA polls last season.
The men's team of
Jose Enrique Coiras and
Diego Rojo Fernandez went 1-2.
Daniel Smith and
Kevin Clack also went 1-2.
Josh Smith and
Nicolas Silva finished at 0-2.
NU continues the fall season on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 9-10) at the Collin County Community College Tournament in Plano, Texas.
