MILWAUKEE – The Newman men's and women's bowling teams started the 2015-16 season this weekend at the Midwest Collegiate, NU's first of 10 events this season. The women's bowling team finished in eighth place in the 32-team field, climbing as high as fifth before a last block struggle on Sunday. The men's bowling team placed 18th in the event.
The Lady Jets showed many bright spots with sophomore
Crystal Nutter having a high game of 265. Freshman
Becca King bowled well in her first event, averaging 196 for the tournament. The team was led by sophomore Haley Williams, who averaged 203.7 and finished in 10th place individually.
The Jets struggled all weekend and couldn't get anything going, finishing 18th in the 40 team field. Senior
Trevor Baumgartner paced the Jets, averaging 213.8 to finish in 13th place. Freshman
Jake Provenzano also got his NU career off to a solid start, averaging 210 for the event and recording a top 20 finish.
NU returns home for its only home event of the season this weekend. The MidStates Championship is Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 10-11) in Wichita, Kan.
