WACO, Texas — Putting up a monster double-double and following that up with a game-high in scoring to help Newman extend its winning streak to five games, Kevin Bryant grabbed Heartland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.
Bryant helped power the Jets (13-11, 9-4 Heartland) to two wins this week, averaging 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, and shooting 70.6 percent from the floor.
The senior had one of the best games of his career against St. Mary's, going for 23 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and two assists, and put up a game-high 14 points and five rebounds in a slowed-down game against Texas A&M International.
Bryant is third in the conference in rebounding with 8.2 per game, and in the top 20 in scoring at 12.0 this season, helping the Jets to a tie for first place in the conference standings with three games left to play.
It is the second player of the week honor for Bryant in his career, and his and the team's first this season. The Jets hit the road to take on Lubbock Christian Thursday evening, as they face the three teams directly behind them in the standings to close the regular season.
