LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Newman women's tennis continued its fall season last weekend competing in the Bethany Invitational. In doubles play, Newman took the championship in the A Doubles, the consolation championship in A Doubles and competed in the semi-finals in B Doubles.
In the A Doubles bracket Newman sophomore
Lisa Pleskan and junior
Hillary Hicks won the final match. Pleskan and Hicks started doubles play against Rockhurst's Karsyn Betts and Alex Schelble winning 8-3. Next were the quarterfinals against Jodie Blakim and Kirsten Holle from Washburn. The Jets beat Washburn 8-5 followed by a semi-final victory of Emporia State's Nicole Jara and Taylor Smith. In the finals, Newman ousted Washburn's Sophie O'Neill and Casyn Buchman, 9-7.

Taylor Jordan made their way to the finals against Rockhurst where they beat the Hawks 8-2.
The B Doubles bracket had another good showing from the Jets as sophomore

Anna Le made it to the finals where they lost to Emporia State.
The ladies of Newman had just as much success in singles play. Pleskan loss to Emporia State's Grossklog in the semi-finals as Symon made her way through the consolation bracket beating Rockhurst for the championship.
Jordan was the ace in the C Singles bracket making her way through to the championship where she competed against Rockhurst's Kim De Groot beating her 6-3, 6-4.
The victories for Newman were not complete without D Singles champion Dold. Dold breezed through the bracket without a loss including the finals against Somer Schmidt from Emporia State where she won 6-4, 6-1.
The Jets will continue play at the Colorado College Classic in Pueblo, Colo. on Sept. 28 and 29. The team will meet Colorado Christian, Mesa State and Metropolitan State Univ. of Denver.
