Mike Viramontez

Mike Viramontez is in his first season as the head softball coach at Newman University. 

Viromontez served as an assistant softball coach before the move to the head coaching position. During his one season as a NU assistant, Viramontez helped the Lady Jets to their best season in Division II history with 16 wins, including two victories over No. 10 Southeastern Oklahoma State. Working primarily with the outfielders, Viramontez coached two All-Heartland Conference selections and one Daktronics South Central Region selection. 
 
Prior to NU, Viramontez served one season as an assistant coach for Southern Arkansas University. Viramontez helped SAU to a fifth place finish in the Great American Conference, and four Lady Muleriders were selected All-GAC.
 
Viramontez has five years of coaching experience in baseball at the high school level. He helped Bishop Carroll High School to the 2012 Kansas 5A state championship and a 23-5 record.
 
Viramontez started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Andale High School in 2008, where he was part of the Indians’ runner up finish. After three seasons as an assistant, Viramontez served as Andale head coach in 2011 and totaled a .850 winning percentage.
 
Viramontez played one season of baseball at Dodge City Community College, before transferring to Newman. Viramontez graduated from Fort Hays State with a bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in human health promotion.
 
A native of Wichita, Viramontez attended Maize High School, where he was a three-year player in baseball.
 
Viramontez and his wife Lindsy currently reside in Wichita.
