SPRINGFIELD, Mo.
- The Newman women's basketball team will look for its second-straight win over a Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Monday evening when they travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on the Drury Panthers. Tip-time is slated for 6 p.m. inside Drury's brand new 3,100-seat O'Reilly Family Event Center.

About the Jets...
Newman has bolted to a 6-2 start this season, including the squad's first-ever win over in-state rival Fort Hays, and a win over regional Catholic rival Rockhurst in the championship game of the Catholic Collegiate Invitational. Newman's only losses came in an 83-71 loss to Pittsburg State on Nov. 16 in Pittsburg, and in a 75-64 decision to No. 17 Wayne State Friday afternoon in Wichita.

The Jets are led by Philicia Kelly, a 5-9 junior transfer from Labette Community College who is averaging 16.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game after a 12-point, four-rebound outing in Newman's 87-74 win over Lincoln nine days ago in Jefferson City. Rhea Codio, a transfer guard from the University of Kansas, scores 14.0 points and dishes out 4.5 assist per game for the Jets as the team's point guard, while Tasha Cannon can be counted on for 12.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in the paint.

As a team, the Jets have held their opponents to a .385 collective field goal percentage, and out-rebound opposing teams by a 41.1-34.2 margin.

Scouting Drury...
The Panthers bring a 4-4 record into Monday's contest, but have won three-straight after a 92-63 win over Saint Joseph's Saturday in Springfield.  After opening their season with a 77-51 exhibition win over Livin' the Dream, Drury dropped four of its first five contests, but have crawled back to the .500 mark with three-straight wins. The Panthers are 3-2 inside the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Ja'Nell Jones has emerged as Drury's leading scorer this season. The 5-4 senior guard is averaging 18 points per game through eight games in the 2010-11 season. Bethani Funderburk, a 5-10 freshman guard, is averaging 11.3 points per game in her first season with the Panthers.
