TOPEKA - The Newman men's tennis team came up short in its three matches this weekend in Topeka. The Jets dropped their first match to Northwest Missouri State 5-2, then dropped their next match to Emporia State, 5-4. The Jets concluded their weekend with a 9-0 loss to Washburn.

In Newman's opening match of the weekend, the Jets battled, but fell short to Northwest Missouri State 5-2.

In doubles competition, Jets duo of Jimmy Dunsieth and Chris King lost a heartbreaker to Northwest's Malcolm Harrison and Raphael Oliveira 9-8.

In singles action, Chris King won an exciting match over NMSU's Felipe Gennari 7-6, 6-4. Newman's other win came at No. 3 when Juraj Surovy defeated the Bearcat's Vijit Sehgal 6-2, 6-2.

Emporia State 5 Newman 4
The Jets second dual contest of the weekend was an intensely close match, but Newman came up on the short end of a 5-4 decision to Emporia State.

In doubles action, Newman's Jimmy Dunsieth and Chris King bounced back from a disapointing loss against NMSU to defeat the Hornets' duo of Ryan Harris and Nick Steifer 8-3.

The Jets fared better in singles play. Chris King dominated ESU's Spencer Pozek 6-2, 6-2. Juraj Surovy got his second singles victory of the weekend, defeating the Hornets' Ryan Harris 6-1, 6-2. Nathan Peters gathered his first win of the weekend beating Andy Sneider 6-1, 7-5.

To conclude Newman's weekend, the Jets were dealt a 9-0 sweep to national power Washburn.

In doubles competition, Newman's Jimmy Dunseith and Chris King dropped their first doubles match of the weekend, losing in a tightly;contested matchup to WU's Ryan Ward and Simon Blondin 8-5.

In singles side of the dual, Juraj Surovy lost his first singles match of the weekend,dropping a 6-3, 7-6 decision to Washburn's Emmanuel Laurent 6-3, 7-6.

After the weekend losses, the Jets drop to 2-6 overall. Newman will return to action Tuesday against Tabor at Riverside Tennis Center, starting at 2 p.m.
