WICHITA - The Newman women's tennis team made history yet again Tuesday afternoon, knocking off NAIA rival Tabor College for the first time in the program's history in an 8-1 blowout at Riverside Tennis Center. The Jets swept the singles competition, and won two of the three doubles matches to remain undefeated inside the bubble.

Laryssa Ferreira and Emily Gerber set the pace for the match with an 8-2 No. 1 doubles win over Tabor's Amanda Faber and Amanda Gayer. Newman's No. 2 tandem of Gabriela Balarin and Megan Lowe followed with an 8-4 win over Jamie Williams and Amanda Wann, and gave the Jets an early 2-0 advantage in the match. Tabor scored its only match win at No. 3 doubles, where Katie Chlumsky and Brynne Mitchell picked up an 8-3 decision over Emily Jones and Danielle Drouhard.

Newman put away any doubt in singles play. Laryssa Ferreira had little trouble putting away Tabor's Amanda Faber, while Gabriela Balarin wasted no time picking up a 6-2, 6-0 straight-set win over Amanda Gayer. Megan Lowe clinched the match witth a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 third-set win over Jamie Williams, giving the Jets a 5-1 lead in the match.

With the match already in hand Emily Jones overcame an early stumble and put away Tabor's Amanda Wann in three sets, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-7, and Emily Gerber downed Brynne Mitchell, 6-2, 6-2. Ashley Dunham secured the singles sweep with an 8-2 pro-set win over Katie Chlumsky, and gave the Jets their final 8-1 margin.

The Jets will return to action Thursday as they host Bethel for a 1 p.m. contest at Riverside Tennis Center.
