TULSA, Okla. - Junior Laryssa Ferriera remained unbeaten in Heartland Conference singles play, but it wasn't enough to push the Jets past Arkansas-Fort Smith, as the the Lions picked up a 8-1 decision over the Newman women's tennis team Tuesday in Tulsa, Okla.
Ferreira completed an undefeated Heartland Conference season at No. 1 singles and picked up the Jets only win of the dual match with a 6-2, 7-6 win over UAFS's Emily Singleton. In doubles competition, Ferreira and teammate
Emily Gerber played well, but fell just short to the Lions duo of Cara Gilham and Abby Whittemore, 9-8.
Ferreira's win was the only bright spot in Tuesday's dual as the Lions swept the remainder of the match to pick up the 8-1 win.
With the loss, the Jets fall to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in Heartland Conference play. Newman returns to action April 23-24 in Dallas, Texas for the Heartland Conference post season tournament.
