WINFIELD, Kan. - The Newman Men's Tennis team won its first dual match of the season with a 9-0 victory over Southwestern College Wednesday afternoon in Winfield, Kan.

The Jets jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Igor Ozegovic and Kevin Klein defeated Max Manley and Josh Sapp, 8-0. Jarred Ferris and Christopher Copenhaver defeated Nick Morris and Michael Bond, 8-3. The last match of doubles was won by default with Matt Riedl and Jeff Wherritt earning the victory.

Newman closed out the day earning six more points during singles action. Ozegovic earned his second victory of the day defeating Manley, 6-3, 6-2. Klein cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Morris. Copenhaver defeated Sapp in a close match, 6-4, 6-3. Ferris defeated Bond, 6-4, 6-4. Wherritt defeated Riggs, and Riedl earned earned his second victory by default.
