WICHITA - The Newman women's tennis team put its 2011 fall season to bed Tuesday afternoon, sweeping arch-rival Friends in a match played at Edgemoor Park. The Jets were never seriously threatened in the match, winning every singles contest in straight sets.

Newman took the early momentum with a doubles sweep. Kirstie Symon and Emily Gerber teamed up for an 8-3 win over Friends' Elly Johnson and Katy O'Riely on the No. 1 court. Courtney Dold and Jess Brown followed with an 8-2 win over the Falcon duo of Katie Lepping and Sara McVey, while Hillary Hicks and Anna Le completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory over Friends' Sam Hutson and Tori Lembke. After doubles play, the Jets held a 3-0 lead in the match.

The Jets kept rolling in singles play. Hicked wasted little time disposing of Johnson on the No. 1 court, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Dold followed on the No. 2 court where she knocked off Hutson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, while Brown picked up a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Lembke in No. 3 singles. Emily Gerber kept the sweep in tact at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lepping, while Katie Klausmeyer swept Kassie Welch on the No. 6 court, 6-0, 6-0. With the match already in hand, Le picked up an 8-2 win over McVay at No. 5.

With the win, the Jets conclude the fall dual season with an unblemished 3-0 record. They will return to action Friday at the ITA Southwest Regional, hosted by Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
