PUEBLO, Colo. - The Newman women's tennis team continued its Fall season success with a 3-0 weekend at the College Colorado Classic in Pueblo, Colo. The Jets beat Colorado Christian 8-1, Colorado Mesa 7-2 and Metro State 6-3.

Newman vs. Colorado Christian
Newman opened the weekend against Colorado Christian beginning with a 2-1 lead in dual match play after winning two of its three matches in doubles competition. Sophomore Lisa Pleskan and junior Hillary Hicks beat Kara Williams and Chelsea Snow, 8-2. The match score was 1-1 after junior Kirstie Symon and sophomore Courtney Dold loss to Elizabeth Vertin and Katy Balli, 8-9 (7-3). Finishing the doubles competition with another Newman point were freshman Taylor Jordan and junior Anna Le winning 8-6 over Cameron Shelby and Cassie Greco.

As singles competition started Newman led 2-1 and continued to control Colorado Christian sweeping the singles matches. Symon started the play against Williams beating her 6-3, 6-1. Pleskan earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Vertin as Hicks earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Snow. Newman's Jordan loss her first set 6-1, but came back 7-6, 7-5. The Jets had two matches left as Dold (6-2, 6-1) and Katie Klausmeyer (6-3,6-2) beat their Colorado Christian opponents.

The Jets defeated Colorado Christain 8-1.

Newman vs. Colorado Mesa
On Saturday, Newman kept winning. In doubles competition against Colorado Mesa, Hicks and Pleskan beat Kaylee Davis and Shannon McNamara in a close match, 8-6. Jordan and Symon rallied together to beat Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert, 8-3. The Jets fought against Colorado Mesa in the third match of doubles, but Dold and Le could not overcome Katie Metz and Michelle Phillips losing 9-7.

The singles round turned out to be another good competition for the Jets. Symon started singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat over Davis. Next up for the Jets was Pleskan. Pleskan kept things rolling for Newman beating Wykert, 6-1, 7-5. After Hicks (6-1, 6-0) and Jordan (6-2, 6-3) earned two more points for Newman, the Jets led 6-1. Newman's Dold added another score as she defeated Nelson 6-2, 6-4, (10-4). Going into the final match Newman led 7-1; Nicole Lessley beat Jets Jessica Brown 6-3, 6-1.

Newman beat Colorado Mesa 7-2.

Newman vs. Metro State Univ. of Denver
After a long day of competition the Jets faced Metro State. The doubles action did not set up well for the match as the Jets went 1-2. Metro State's Alicia Holm and Cara Cromwell were forced to put that extra effort in the first match to beat Newman's Jordan and Symon, 8-6. The second match was the only victory for the Jets coming from Pleskan and Dold; the two beat Marianne Evangelista and Sam Schall, 8-4. Hicks and Le were not able to hold off Nicole Herrmann and Nikki Amos losing 8-4.

The Jets turned up the power in the singles competition winning five of the six matches. Symon started the rally for the Jets forcing Cromwell to a 7-5, 6-4 loss. Another fierce first set, 7-5, for Pleskan gave her the boost to be victorious over Holm with a 6-0 second set score. Hicks 6-4, 6-1 victory over Evangelista gave the Jets the 4-2 score. Jordan and Dold added two more points for Newman with Jordan's 6-4, 5-7 (7) and Dold's 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 over Metro State. The final set of the match went to Metro State-Kelly Vu beat Klausmeyer 6-0, 6-2.

Coach Shella Augspurger stated this on the weekend perfomance, "I was so impressed on how the girls performed. Each of them were so tired and dug deeper than I knew they could to defeat the teams. It was a great weekend. The girls battled hard."

Newman's 6-3 victory over Metro State was the final match to give the Jets the 3-0 victorious weekend.
