Box Score Fort Hays, Kansas- The Newman women's basketball team lost its third straight game on the road this Tuesday, as they fell to the Lions of Fort Hays State University 66-46.
Chynna Ramelb led the Jets with 16 points.
Newman struggled to find their footing early in the first half, trailing 5-0 to the Tigers at the 18:29 mark. A jumper by
Kianna Flannagan with 13:52 remaining in the half put the Jets within one. The Tigers pounced ahead though, taking a 10-point lead after a layup at the 7:29 mark. A perfect pair of Jet free throws made the score 22-20 Fort Hays with a minute left. However, two baskets by the Tigers in the final seconds gave them a 26-20 lead at the end of the half.
The Jets battled hard at the start of the second half, getting within two after a pair of free throws from
Chynna Ramelb with 12:43 left in the game. The game fell out of the Jets' hands when Fort Hays used a 19-2 run in the final minutes of the second half to make the final score 66-46 Tigers.
Chynna Ramelb led the Jets wth 16 points. As a team, Newman shot 25 percent (16-56) from the field and 37.5 percent (3-13) from behind the arc. The Jets outrebounded the Tigers 21-15 and were a perfect 11 for 11 from the line.
With the loss, the Jets move to 1-3 on the season. Newman returns to the hardwood this Friday as they travel to Denver, Colorado to compete in the Regis Classic hosted by the Rangers of Regis University.
