Strong Second Half Propels Rangers past Jets 83-61

Box Score Denver, Colo. - The early season struggles for the Jets continued Friday afternoon inside Regis Fieldhouse, as a strong second half propelled the Rangers to an 83-61 victory.  Junior Chynna Ramelb led the Jets with 15 points in the loss.

After draining a three pointer to open the scoring in the first half, the Rangers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead at the 16:18 mark.  The Jets proved to be equal to the task, as jumpers from Sumayyah Muhammad and Ramelb tied the score at 9-9 with 13 minutes to play in the half.  The teams battled back and forth for much of the remainder of the half, and a free throw from Ramelb at the 3:30 mark gave the Jets their first lead of the game, 24-23.  Both teams traded the lead several times before the first half ended, going into halftime locked at 30-30.

The Jets carried some of their late first half momentum into the final frame, matching Regis shot for shot over the first few minutes.  A jumper from freshman Alexandra Ciabattoni pulled the Jets within two at the 17:07 mark, but the Rangers answered right back thanks to Tae'lor Purdy, who scored 10 points over a two-minute span to put the Rangers ahead 49-42 with 14 minutes to play.  Regis put the game out of reach with a 15-0 run, chewing five minutes off the clock and giving them a 21 point advantage at the 7:46 mark.  The Jets did their best to get the offense going again, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as the Rangers ended the half on a five point run to yield the final score of 83-61.

Chynna Ramelb led the Jets with 15 points, including 6-6 from the charity stripe.  Kianna Flannagan added nine points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.

As a team, the Jets shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor, including 78.6 percent (11-14) from the free throw line.  The Rangers outrebounded the Jets 43-31.  Sarah Feeney and Tae'lor Purdy led the scoring charge for Regis, scoring 18 and 17 points respectively.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 1-4 on the season (0-0 Heartland).  They will take on Colorado School of Mines in the second game of the Regis Classic on Saturday afternoon.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. inside Regis Fieldhouse.
