The Match-Up
About the Jets...
The Jets will look for their third-straight win, and their 11th consecutive victory inside Fugate Gymnasium Saturday against Texas-Permian Basin. On its home floor this season Newman is averaging 74.1 points per game and is out-scoring its opposition by 17.1 points per game.The Jets are led by seniors Satoria Bell and Tasha Cannon. Bell, who is averaging 23.4 points and 6.1 boards this season is the second leading scorer in NCAA Div. II women's basketball with 536 points and has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week eight times. Cannon is averaging 16.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and has notched 11 double-doubles this season. She has also received Heartland Conference POTW honors four times this season.

Scouting UTPB...
The Falcons come into Saturday's game with a 18-6 record and a 8-2 mark in Heartland Conference play. UTPB has won six-straight and has scored over 100 in their past two contests. In their last matchup the Falcons handed Oklahoma Panhandle State a 106-98 loss in a shootout inside the Aggies' Oscar Williams Field House. UTPB had five players score in double digits and was led by junior Teisha King who dumped in a career-high 26 points in the contest.

Last Time Out...
The Jet won their tenth-straight game inside Fugate Gymnasium and their eighth Heartland Conference game of the season. Satoria Bell led all scorers with 25 points.

First Half Notes:
-The Jets used layups from Sam Soyez, Alina Voronenko and Tasha Cannon to open up a 6-0 lead to start the half.
-St. Edward's responded, using a Shaniqua Adams jumper to tie the game at 9-9 with 14:47 left to play in the half.
-The game went back-and-forth and was tied at 15-15 with 11:36 remaining.
-SEU took advantage of the back-and-forth play and grabbed a 27-26 lead with 3:16 to go.
-The Hilltoppers closed the half on a 6-1 run sparked by a Monica James layup to close the half with a 33-27 lead.

Second Half Notes:
-St. Edward's used two James free throws to extend the lead to 35-27.
-Newman's Satoria Bell responded with a four-point run of her own to cut the lead to 35-31one minute into the half.
-The Hilltoppers responded, and by the 16:59 mark and pushed the lead to as many and 42-31.
-The Jets took over after that and used a Tasha Cannon layup to set-off a nine-point run and tie the game at 42-42 with 13:41 remaining.
-The teams traded baskets until the 8:26 mark when Newman's Satoria Bell sparked a 12-point run to give the Jets a 60-48 lead with 3:33 to play.
-Newman closed the game over the next three minutes with free throws and a Cannon layup for the 67-54 win.

Satoria Bell scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down five boards in the contest. As a team, Newman shot 56.3 percent (27-48) from the field and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the charity stripe. Newman out-rebounded the Hilltoppers 32-23 in the contest.

A Peak At the Heartland Conference Tournament...

Newman (7-2 HC), Texas-Permian Basin (7-2 HC), UA-Fort Smith (7-3 HC), and St. Mary's (7-3 HC) have all clinched spots in the Heartland Conference Tournament. No. 5 Texas A&M International (3-7 HC) has two regular-season games remaining, and has been mathematically eliminated from contention.
