St. Joseph, Mo. - The Newman women's tennis team swept all three of its opponents this weekend at the 2012 Car City/Hyundai tennis classic, hosted by Missouri Western State University. The Jets are now 4-0 in spring season play.

Newman 9, Lincoln 0
Kirstie Symon and Carissa Villaflor started Newman off with a 1-0 lead after defeating Camila Araujo and Alina Katrevich in the first doubles match of the day. Courtney Dold and Jessica Brown teamed up for a shut-out win over Kamaria Brave and Jasmine Daniel, 8-0 to give the Jets a 2-0 lead headed into the final doubles match. Hillary Hicks and Anna Le finished of the doubles sweep with a 8-1 win over Victoria Banks and Gabrielle Quinn to put the Jets ahead 3-0 in dual match play.

Kirstie Symon extended the Newman lead to 4-0 after defeating Camila Arajuo 6-0, 6-2 in the first singles match. Hillary Hicks secured the Jets dual match win after beating Alina Katrevich, 6-1, 6-0 to give Newman a 5-0 advantage. Courtney Dold and Carissa Villaflor both recorded straight-set sweeps while Jessica Brown nearly did the same with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jasmine Daniel. Katie Klausmeyer finished off the dual match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Victoria Banks, securing the Newman sweep and the dual match win.

Kirstie Symon and Carissa Villaflor gave Newman the first win of the dual, defeating Audri Swisher and Amanda Przymus, 8-4 in doubles play. Hillary Hicks and Courtney Dold followed suit with a 8-2 victory over Mary Horton and Shannon Schroeder to give the Jets a 2-0 lead. Jessica Brown and Emily Gerber finished off the doubles sweep by defeating Kassie Hein and Jacy Jahn, 8-3 and gave Newman a 3-0 advantage going into singles play.

Kirstie Symon recorded a straight-set sweep against Audri Swisher to start off singles play and gave Newman a 4-0 lead in the dual. Hillary Hicks nearly did the same, defeating Amanda Przymus 6-1, 6-0 to give Newman a 5-0 lead and secure the dual match win. Courtney Dold defeated Mary Horton 6-0, 6-2 followed by a Jessica Brown win over Kassie Hein 6-3, 6-0 to push the Newman lead to 7-0. Carissa Villaflor added another point with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Megan Solberg and Emily Gerber finished the 9-0 dual match sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Shannon Schroeder.

Carissa Villaflor and Kirstie Symon handed Kayla Dysart and Ceara Boldridge a 8-3 loss to start doubles play. Hillary Hicks and Courtney Dold kept the momentum in Newman's favor after shutting out Nicole Kerr and Katie Field, 8-0 in the second doubles match. Jessica Brown and Emily Gerber finished off the doubles sweep with a 8-1 win over Erin Ward and Alecia Jenkins, giving Newman a 3-0 lead in dual match play.

The Jets continued their dominant performance in singles play beginning with a straight-set sweep by Kirstie Symon over Nicole Kerr to put the Jets up 4-0. Hillary Hicks secured the Newman win with a victory over Ceara Boldridge 6-2, 6-0, giving the Jets a 5-0 advantage. Courtney Dold and Jessica Brown both tacked on wins to push the Nemwan lead to 7-0 followed by a Carissa Villaflor victory over Alecia Jenkins, 6-1, 6-3. Anna Le shut the door on Missouri Western and clinched the dual match sweep and the tournament victory after beating Katie Field 6-0, 7-5 in the final singles match.

With the win the Jets improve to 4-0 in spring season play. They will return to action Tuesday Feb. 28 when they take on Hesston in Wichita at Genesis West.
