WICHITA- The Newman women's tennis team went 2-2 during its Spring Break trip to Texas. The Jets defeated Texas-Permian Basin 6-2, and Our Lady of the Lake 9-0, while St. Edward's and St. Mary's handed Newman 8-1 and 7-2 losses, respectively. Kirstie Symon cruised to a 4-0 record in singles play, and the duo of Symon and Carissa Villaflor went 3-1 in doubles play.

Symon opened play with a 1-6, 7-5, 10-8 victory over St. Edward's Alexandra Khadzhyan. Symon then dispatched UTPB's Breigh Shotwell 6-0, 6-1, before defeating St. Mary's Valentine Lambrechts 6-4, 4-6, and 6-3. The Seminole State transfer finished up singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 trouncing of Our Lady of the Lake's Jessica Perez.

In doubles play, Symon and Villaflor dropped their opening match 8-2 to St. Ed's Khadzhyan and Audrey Tompkins, before reeling off three-straight victories over Texas-Permian Basin 8-2, St. Mary's 8-4, and Our Lady of the Lake, 8-1.

Following the four matches, Newman drops to 10-4 on the season. The Jets will return to action on March 31, when they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for matches against Dallas Baptist, Northwest Missouri State, and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
