Eagles’ 3-pointer with 6 Seconds Left Down Jets, 73-71

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The home Eagles of Oklahoma Christian hit a 3-point shot with 6 seconds remaining to down the Newman women's basketball team on Thursday (Jan. 3) at the Eagles' Nest. The Jets fall to 5-8, while the Eagles improved to 8-6.
 
Down nine at 70-61 with 3:20 remaining, the Jets went on a 10-0 run, fueled by two 3-pointers by Kianna Flannagan. Newman took its first lead since a 2-0 advantage in the first half when Chynna Ramelb made the score 71-70 on two free throws with 20 seconds remaining. The lead did not stand as OCU's Krista Stevens made the game-winning 3-pointer with 6 seconds left in the game.
 
In the first half with 2:22 left, the Eagles led by just two points, 30-28, however, OCU pushed the margin to eight with back-to-back 3s to end the half and take a 36-28 halftime advantage.
 
The Eagles maintained a double digit lead for the beginning of the second half, but the Jets closed to within five at 66-61 on a three-point play from Chynna Ramelb at the 5:51 mark. Four straight Eagle points made it 70-61 with 3:20 left.
 
Four Jets hit double figures with Flannagan leading the way with 19 points. Ramelb added 11 points, and Tyahnna Higgs and Alexandra Ciabattoni each totaled 10 points. Ciabattoni grabbed a team and game-high eight rebounds.
 
The Jets shot 38.7 percent from the field, including 43.3 percent in the second half. NU was strong from the free-throw line, going 14-of-17 (82.4 percent) from the charity strip.
 
Newman returns to action in one week on Jan. 10 as the Jets welcome Texas A&M International. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Fugate Gymnasium.
