Box Score WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away from Central Christian for an 85-73 win on Monday night (Nov. 11) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets moved to 1-1 on the season.
NU put up 56 points in the second half on 51.3 percent (20-39) from the field. The defense held the Tigers to 37.9 percent (11-29) in the second half.
The first half was much lower scoring with the scored tied at 29-29 at the break. NU shot just 25.7 percent (9-35) from the field.
Senior
Cheniqwa Banks scored a career-high 31 points, hitting eight 3-pointers. She finished 10-of-18 from the field and 8-of-14 from 3-point range.
Alexandra Ciabattoni totaled a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. She was 8-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc. Ciabattoni added five assists and two steals.
Cierra Tjaden finished with a game-high 10 assists, as the Lady Jets had 27 assists on their 29 baskets.
CCC got a double-double from Quamisha Spence, who tallied 26 points and 10 rebounds. She went 14-of-17 from the free throw line and 6-of-19 from the field.
For the game, NU shot 39.2 percent (29-74) and 36.4 percent (12-33) from 3-point range. The Lady Jets, however, struggled from the free throw line, hitting 15-of-26 (57.7 percent).
The Lady Jets welcome No. 5 Emporia State to Fugate Gymnasium on Thursday (Nov. 14) for a 7 p.m. game. Live stats, video and audio will be available for the contest.
