Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas – The Newman women's basketball team fell, 95-66, at Lubbock Christian on Saturday (Nov. 23) at Rip Griffin Center. The loss is the first Heartland Conference loss for the Lady Jets as they drop to 1-1 in the Heartland Conference and 2-3 overall. LCU moves to 4-1 and 2-0 in the conference.
NU started fast, going up 9-4 less than 3 minutes into the game. An
Alexandra Ciabattoni 3-pointer put the Lady Jets in front by five. Another 3-pointer this time by
Brianna Caldwell made it 16-12 in favor of NU at the 14:51 mark.
In the next 10 minutes, LCU went on a 37-10 run to open up a 49-26 advantage over the Lady Jets with 4:15 left in the half. The lead was still 23 at 56-33 going into halftime.
LCU held its lead in the second half, taking the win, 95-66.
The Lady Chaps had seven players in double figures, including a 23 point and 11 rebound performance from Nicole Hampton. She was 9-of-12 from the field, 2-of-3 from 3, and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Alexandra Ciabattoni tallied a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Jets. She went 8-of-11 from the field, including 1-for-1 from 3-point range. Shakeira Copeland added 15 points.
NU returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at Fort Hays State at 7 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
