WICHITA – The Newman men's tennis team lost, 8-1, to McPherson College on Saturday (Feb. 11). The doubles team of Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez picked up the Jets lone win. The Jets dropped to 0-2 in the spring season.
 
Dos Santos and Sanchez were victorious in the No. 1 doubles match. The duo defeated Sean Dullaghan and Slav Bukatin, 8-5.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Jared Ferris and Ramon Nola fell, 8-5, to Sean De Young and Rafael Bulnes, and at No. 3 doubles Mark Mahan and Torsten Keil-Long took down NU's pair of Jeff Wherritt and Mitchel Whitmer, 8-5.
 
The Bulldogs won all six of the single matches, all in straight sets. Nei Dos Santos fell, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles match to Rafael Bulnes, and at No. 2 singles, Freddy Sanchez dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match to Slav Bukatin. Ramon Nola went down, 6-1, 6-3, to Torsten Keil-Long at No. 3 singles.
 
Jared Ferris dropped his No. 4 singles match to Mark Mahan, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Jeff Wherritt was downed, 6-4, 6-4, by Sean De Young, and Mitchel Whitmer fell to Ronaldo Filho, 6-3, 6-0.
 
The men's tennis team returns to action on Feb. 15 against Rockhurst at 11:30 a.m. at East Genesis in Wichita.
