BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Newman men's tennis team started its spring schedule with a 9-0 loss to Harding University on Friday (Feb. 8). The Bison won all six single matches and all three doubles matches.
 
At No. 4 singles, Jeff Wherritt pushed HU's Helio Hashimoto, but Hashimoto prevailed in set one, 7-5. From there Hashimoto took set two, 6-2.
 
Freddy Sanchez dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match to Mark Singnil at No. 1 singles. In the No. 2 singles match, Ramon Nola fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Jon Rowden. Jared Ferris lost, 6-1, 6-0, to Alex Ford of HU at No. 3 singles. In the No. 5 singles match, Mitchel Whitmer went down, 6-3, 6-1, to Adam Edwards. Matt Carrascosa of Harding blanked Mark Riedl, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 single match.
 
On the doubles side, Harding won all three matches. HU won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Jets return home for a match against McPherson College tomorrow (Feb. 9) at 2 p.m.
