WICHITA – The Newman women's tennis team shutout Washburn, 9-0, on Friday (March 1) at West Genesis. The Lady Jets won their third straight match and are 7-1 this season.
 
Only two of the six singles matches went three sets. After dropping set one, 6-2, Courtney Dold won the next two sets in convincing fashion, going 6-0 and 6-0 to take the win at No. 3 singles. Carissa Villaflor won a 10-7 tiebreaker at No. 5 singles to get the win. The first two sets were split, 6-2, 2-6.
 
At No. 1 singles, Kirstie Symon won 6-1, 6-3 over Sophie O'Neill. Lisa Pleskan defeated Jodie Blackim, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Taylor Jordan won in two sets, 6-1, 6-1, against Nzingha Banks at No. 4 singles, and Jessica Brown defeated Ashlynn Sutton, 6-0, 6-3.
 
The duo of Symon and Jordan got the 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Pleskan and Villaflor teamed up at No. 2 doubles and won 9-7. Dold and Alajandra Hernandez got the 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Lady Jets return to the court on March 9 at Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.
