AUSTIN, Texas – In the closest match of their seven-match winning streak, the Lady Jet women's tennis team defeated UTPB, 5-4, on Saturday (March 17). Newman is now 11-1 and 1-0 in the Heartland Conference.
 
Strong singles play lifted the Lady Jets to the win as NU took four of the six matches. No. 1 singles player Kirstie Symon won 6-1, 6-2, and Lisa Pleskan cruised, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. In the No. 4 singles match, Taylor Jordan won 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Carissa Villaflor got a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
 
The Lady Jets took only one of the double matches. Pleskan and Vilaflor were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
 
Newman is back in action tomorrow (March 17) against St. Edward's in Austin, Texas at 10 a.m.
