St. Mary's Results | Incarnate Word Results

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Newman men's tennis dropped two matches in San Antonio against St. Mary's and No. 19 Incarnate Word. The Jets fell 8-1 to the Rattlers and 7-0 to the Cardinals. NU is now 5-11 on the season and 0-3 in the Heartland Conference.
 
In the 8-1 loss to St. Mary's, the lone Jet win came at No. 6 singles. Jeff Wherritt won in a third set tiebreaker, 11-9. After dropping set one, 6-1, Wherritt won set two 6-3.
 
The other five singles matches were all losses in straight sets. In doubles, Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez lost 8-4 at No. 1. Ramon Nola and Jarred Ferris went down 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and at No. 3 doubles, Mitchel Whitmer and Jeff Wherritt lost 8-4.
 
Against Incarnate Word, the Jets went down 7-0. In singles competition NU won just five games in the four matches that were completed. The Jets also dropped all three doubles matches.
 
Newman returns to the court on March 29-30 at the Evangel Invite. NU takes on Kansas Wesleyan and Graceland University at the event.
