Jet Tennis Splits Two Matches at Evangel Invite

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Newman men's tennis went 1-1 at the Evangel Invite on Friday and Saturday (March 29-30). The Jets defeated Kansas Wesleyan, 7-2, on Friday and then fell to Graceland University on Saturday, 9-0.  NU is 6-12 on the season.
 
In the 7-2 win against KWU, the Jets took two of the three doubles matches. Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Jeff Wherritt and Mitchel Whitmer got a 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
 
NU won five of the six singles matches. Dos Santos got a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Sanchez was victorious at No. 2 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Roman Nola won 6-5, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. In the No. 5 singles match, Whitmer won 6-7, 7-5, and 10-2. Wherritt won the No. 6 singles match by the score of 6-2, 6-1.
 
Against Graceland University on Saturday, the Jets lost all nine matches, all in straight sets.
 
The Jets travel to Tulsa, Okla. on April 5 for their next match. NU takes on Arkansas-Fort Smith in a Heartland Conference match.
