WICHITA – Newman women's tennis faced a tough test against No. 37 Northeastern State, falling 6-3 on Friday (April 12) at Riverside. The Lady Jets dropped to 16-5 while the Riverhawks improved to 19-2.
Although the Lady Jets fell,
Kirstie Symon was dominant in her two matches. She cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ivana Belejova, who is ranked No. 7 in the Central Region, at No. 1 singles, and Symon teamed with
Taylor Jordan to get a 8-4 No. 1 doubles win over Belejova and Lucia Cerchlanova.
Jessica Brown gave the Lady Jets their third win with a hard fought victory at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Brown won set two 6-4 and clinched the victory with a 10-8 score in the third.
In the other four singles matches, the Riverhawks won in straight sets. NSU also won two of the three doubles matches to take the 6-3 victory.
The Lady Jets are back in action tomorrow against Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. at Riverside. The match is the final home match of the season and four seniors will be honored as a part of Senior Day.
