EMPORIA, Kan. – The men's tennis team finished its regular season on Tuesday (April 16) with an 8-1 loss at Emporia State. The Jets end the regular season 7-16 and now prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament.
 
The lone Jet win came at No. 2 singles as Freddy Sanchez won 6-2, 6-3 over Andrew Davids.
 
Ramon Nola and Mitchel Whitmer both dropped very close matches, losing in three sets. Nola, playing at No. 3 singles, lost set one, 6-4, then won 6-1 in set two, but last 10-5 in the third set tiebreaker. Whitmer won 6-0 to start the match at No. 5 singles then lost 7-5 and lost a very close tiebreaker 12-10.
 
The Hornets won all three doubles matches and also won at No.1, 4 and 6 singles.
 
Newman now prepares for the Heartland Conference Tournament this weekend. Playing as the No. 5 seed, the Jets take on UTPB on Friday (April 19) at 12 p.m.
