Women’s Tennis Falls 5-1 to UAFS in Heartland Conference Tournament

DALLAS – The Newman women's tennis team fell, 5-1, to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday morning (April 19) in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tennis Tournament.
 
The Lions swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Kirstie Symon and Taylor Jordan lost a tight match, 9-8, to the Lions. The No. 2 doubles match was also close, but Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor went down, 8-6. Alajandra Hernandez and Courtney Dold fell in the No. 3 doubles match, 8-1.
 
In singles, UAFS needed two wins to take the match. The Lions got those wins at No. 4 and 6 singles to take the match 5-1. Carissa Villaflor won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3 to give the Lady Jets their one win.
 
In unfinished matches, Kirstie Symon was up 6-4, 2-1 at No. 1 singles and Lisa Pleskan was up 6-4, 2-1 at No. 2 singles. Courtney Dold was behind 6-4, 2-0 at No. 3 singles.
