Jets Split on Final Day in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The Newman men's tennis team split on its final day in Tulsa, winning 8-1 over Dallas Baptist in a Heartland Conference match, and falling 6-0 to No. 22-ranked Northwest Missouri. The Jets are now 7-14 on the season.
 
The Jets cruised past DBU 8-1. NU swept doubles competition with Nei Dos Santos and Freddy Sanchez winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, and Ramon Nola and Jared Ferris getting a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Mitchel Whitmer and Jeff Wherritt won at No. 3 doubles by default.
 
In the singles matches, NU won five of the six. Dos Santos won, 8-7 (3-0), at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 and 3 singles, Sanchez and Nola both won by identical 8-1 scores. Whitmer got a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, and Wherritt won at No. 6 singles by default.
 
Against the No. 22-ranked Bearcats, the Jets dropped all six matches. Playing only singles competition, NOWSOU took all single matches by straight sets.
 
The Jets are back in action on Tuesday (April 9) against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 12 p.m. in Wichita.
