WICHITA – Newman women's tennis got its first-ever win against Emporia State, wining 8-1 against the Hornets on Saturday (Sept. 21) at Riverside. The Lady Jets are 2-0 in their two fall duals.
 
The Lady Jets started strong, sweeping the doubles matches. Kirstie Symon and Taylor Jordan won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor were down early, but rallied to win 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Courtney Dold and Ariana Raga won 8-3 to lift NU to a 3-0 advantage.
 
In singles play, the Lady Jets won five of the six matches to take the 8-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Symon rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Taylor won a tight match at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 3-6 (10-2). Dold won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4 singles. Raga continued the strong singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Villaflor won a very close match at No. 6 singles, getting a 6-4, 3-6 (13-11) victory.
 
The Lady Jets are next in action against Friends University on Tuesday (Sept. 24).
