Box Score WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team pulled away for a 68-48 win against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday (Jan. 4) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets improved to 6-7 and 4-4 in the Heartland Conference.
 
Alexandra Ciabattoni scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. She added six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. Shekeira Copeland scored 12 of her 13 points in the first half. Cierra Tjaden added 10 points and a game-high five assists. Although she didn't score, Cheniqwa Banks pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. She added two steals.
 
The Lady Jets shot 56 percent (14-25) in the first half and finished 48.2 percent (27-56) in the game.
 
The defense held OPSU to 27.6 percent (8-29) in the second half. The Aggies shot 34.5 percent (20-58) for the game. OPSU was 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from 3-point range.
 
Sarah Johnson led OPSU with 16 points, but turned the ball over six times. Hannah Tatum added 14 points.
 
The Lady Jets welcome York College to Fugate Gymnasium on Monday (Jan. 6) at 6 p.m.
