ROLLA, Mo. – The Newman women's basketball team plays two games this weekend at the Lady Miner Classic, hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo. Today (Nov. 21) the Lady Jets take on No. 20 Central Missouri at 5:30 p.m., and NU plays Lemoyne-Owen on Saturday (Nov. 22) at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be provided for both contests.
 
NU started the regular season on Friday (Nov. 14) with a 52-48 victory over Bethel College. Sophomore Brianna Caldwell scored a career-high 23 points in the victory. The Wichita native hit seven 3-pointers and two key free throws to total the 23 points. DeKendra Ledoux added 10 points as the bench scored 35 of the 52 points. Sophomore Cierra Tjaden filled up the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Freshman DeJah Thompson pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. The NU defense held Bethel to 29.6 percent shooting from the floor.
 
The Jennies are 0-1 on the season after a close 70-68 loss to Minnesota State on Nov. 14 in Mankato, Minn. UCM erased a 16-point second half deficit, but were held off by MSU. It was the Jennies first season opening loss since 2007-08. Jasmine Thompson scored a game-high 27 points, Revonnia Howard added 13 points and Justin Prairie Chief added 11 points.
 
LeMoyne-Owen is also 0-1 on the season. The Magicians fell to Robert Morris, 72-64, on Nov. 15 in Chicago. LeMoyne-Owen plays host Missouri S&T today (Nov. 21) at 7:30 p.m. after the NU/UCM game.
 
After this weekend, NU returns home for three-straight games inside Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets start with Fort Hays State on Tuesday (Nov. 25) at 5:30 p.m.
