WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team ends a three-game homestand tonight with a non-conference contest against Central Christian (Kan.) College at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium. Video ($) and live stats will be available along with radio on KGSO 1410 AM with Dan Lucero on the call.
The Jets are looking to get back on track after dropping two games against tough MIAA competition last week. NU fell, 75-47, to a very good Fort Hays State team then lost by the same score of 75-47 to No. 18-ranked Washburn on Saturday. On the season, NU is 2-3 overall.
Brianna Caldwell leads the Jets with an 11 points per game average, and
Cierra Tjaden adds 10.4 points per game. Freshman
DaJah Thompson grabs a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.
Central Christian is currently 3-8 on the season and is a member of the NAIA and MCAC. The Tigers have played one game against an NCAA Division II team, losing 101-46 to Missouri Southern on Nov. 25. They have posted wins against Barclay College, Ozark Christian College and Manhattan Christian College. Kelly Smit is the leading scorer for the Tigers, averaging 14 points per game. Quamisha Spence also pours in double digit points per game at 12.8 in only four games.
After tonight's game, the Jets travel to No. 2 Emporia State on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 5:30 p.m. in Emporia, Kan.
