WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team ends its non-conference schedule on Saturday (Dec. 13) with a matchup against William Jewell College at 1 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium. Live stats, video and audio from KGSO 1410 AM will be available for the contest.
 
The Jets are currently 3-4 on the season with three of those four losses to top 25 opponents, including to No. 1-ranked Emporia State on Saturday. NU's three wins are against Bethel College (52-48), LeMoyne-Owen College (57-47) and Christian Christian College (90-62). The Jets non-conference schedule is one of the toughest in all of NCAA Division II women's basketball. NU's offense is led by Brianna Caldwell, who averages a team-best 10 points per game. Cierra Tjaden adds 9.4 points per game, and senior DeKendra Ledoux adds 7.8 points per game. DaJah Thompson pulls down a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. Tjaden leads the team in assists per game at 4.4.
 
The Cardinals are 4-3 on the year. In their most recent contest, WJC lost to Central Missouri, 78-64, in Warrensburg, Mo. Maddie Nelson and Christia Benton-Keys each scored 13 points. Nelson is averaging a team-high 14.3 points per game this season, and Aerial Smith pours in 12.4 points per game. Makenzie Johnson is the team's leading rebounder at 7.3 per game. Smith has the team lead in assists at 4.4 per game.
 
NU starts Heartland Conference play on Dec. 18, hosting St. Edward's at Fugate Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Live stats, video and audio will be available for the contest.
