Women’s Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Season

DALLAS – Newman women's tennis suffered its first loss of the season, falling 9-0 to No. 19 St. Mary's on Friday (March 28) at the L.B. Houston Tennis Center. The Lady Jets dropped to 14-1 and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference.
 
The Rattlers started by taking all three doubles matches. Mariana Rong and Cristina Lopez got an 8-5 win over Kirstie Symon and Taylor Jordan at No. 1 doubles. Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor went down, 8-4, to Jamie Lee Denton and Felicity Delgado of StMU at No. 2 doubles. Ariana Saldana and Joanie Bryant defeated Hillary Hicks and Maria Hernandez, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
 
StMU continued to control the match in singles, taking all six courts. Rong won 6-3, 7-5 over Symon at No.  1 singles. At No. 2 singles Pleskan fell 6-4, 6-2 to Lopez. Felicity Delgado got a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jordan at No. 3 singles. In the No. 4 singles match, Denton won 6-2, 6-1 over Hicks. Saldana of StMU pulled away for a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Ariana Raga. Bryant got a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles against Villaflor.
 
The Lady Jets are back in action tomorrow (March 29) against Dallas Baptist.
