ResultsWICHITA – The Newman women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 9-0 victory over Fort Hays State on Saturday (April 19) at Riverside Park. The Lady Jets moved to 21-3 on the season.
Kirstie Symon, who was honored after the match for Senior Day, went 2-0 in her final home match. The senior, who is ranked No. 20 in the South Central Region, was impressive in singles, defeating Camille Caron-Bedard, the No. 10-ranked player in the Central Region, by the score of 6-1, 6-2. Symon teamed up with
Taylor Jordan to get an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
In the other doubles courts,
Carissa Villaflor and
Lisa Pleskan got an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Courtney Dold and
Maria Hernandez cruised to a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Pleskan was victorious at No. 2 singles, winning the third set tiebreaker 10-7. The junior won the first set, 6-1, but dropped set two, 6-3. The Lady Jets won the rest of the singles courts in straight sets. Jordan pulled away for a 6-0, 6-2 won at No. 3 singles. In the No. 4 singles match,
Hillary Hicks got a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Dold won both of her sets by the score of 6-1 to get the victory at No. 5 singles, and
Ariana Raga cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Jets now travel to the Heartland Conference Tournament on April 25-26 where NU takes on UA Fort Smith in the semifinals. St. Mary's and Dallas Baptist are the other semifinals match up.
