Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 50 UAFS

MOORE, Okla. – The Newman women's tennis team fell, 8-1, to Arkansas-Fort Smith on Sunday (April 6). The Lady Jets couldn't get anything going in a cold and wet day that included two rain delays. NU will enter the Heartland Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak as the Lady Jets dropped to 18-2 and 4-2 in the Heartland Conference.
 
The Lady Lions started the match by taking all three doubles courts. Kirstie Symon and Taylor Jordan fell, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Lisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor also lost by the score of 8-4. Hillary Hicks and Courtney Dold went down, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Pleskan got the win victory in singles. She cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Three courts went to a third set. Jordan lost a tight match at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set, 6-4, Jordan responded to win set two, 6-3. In the third, she fell 7-5. Dold also fell in the third set. After a 6-3 set one loss, she came back to win set two, 6-3. In the third, she fell 6-2. Villaflor was the third Lady Jet to go to the third set. She lost 6-4 to start the No. 6 singles match then she won 7-6 (7-2) in set two. In the final set, Villaflor lost, 6-1.
 
The Lady Jets are back in action on Saturday (April 12) at Cameron. The match starts at 11 a.m.
