Box ScoreEMPORIA, Kan. – The Newman men's tennis team got victories at both No. 1 sports, but couldn't defeat Emporia State, falling 6-3 to the Hornets on Tuesday (Sept. 16) at Emporia High School.
Eduardo Santos and
Freddy Sanchez were victorious at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-6. The duo was the only doubles win for NU.
In singles play, Santos got the win at No. 1 in three sets to go 2-0 on the day. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Santos came back to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-2.
Freshman Diego Rojo Fernandez won at No. 4 singles in three sets. In the first set, he fell 6-4, but came back to win set two, 6-4. He was victorious in the third set tiebreaker by a 10-5 score to win the match.
The Jets return to Emporia, Kan. on Friday (Sept. 19) for a match against Truman at 2 p.m. at Emporia High School.
