EMPORIA, Kan. – The Newman women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Truman on Friday (Sept. 19) at Emporia High School. The Lady Jets moved to 2-0 on the fall season.
NU took all three courts in doubles competition.
Lisa Pleskan and
Carissa Villaflor pulled away for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and Kate Bugayenka and
Ariana Raga were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Hillary Hicks and
Courtney Dolds gave NU the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Jets got five of the six courts in singles competition. Pleskan and Bugayenko both picked up wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Pleskan rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 win, and Bugayenko was even more dominant with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
No. 4-6 singles continued to be a strength for the NU women's tennis team as the Lady Jets were victorious at all three. After dropping set one, 6-0, Hicks rallied to win 6-3 and 10-7 to win the match at No. 4. In the No. 5 singles match, Raga cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win. Villaflor also picked up a straight set victory, getting a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
NU travels to the ITA South Central Regionals on Sept. 26 at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.
