Lady Jets Look to Extend Winning Streak at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Newman women's basketball team looks to extend its Heartland Conference winning streak to three games on Thursday (Jan. 15) at Oklahoma Christian at 5:30 p.m. at the Eagles' Nest. Live stats and video will be provided by OC.
 
The Jets have won two straight games, and they are currently 2-4 in the Heartland Conference and 5-9 overall. After starting the conference slate with four losses, NU has back-to-back wins. The Jets knocked off Lubbock Christian, 52-46, on Jan. 8 at Fugate Gymnasium, and then NU defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 67-52, on Saturday (Jan. 10). In the win over LCU, DeKendra Ledoux totaled a game-high 20 points, and Kesha Buckner added 11 points and a school record eight steals. Brianna Caldwell tied a career-high with 23 points in the win over OPSU. She hit six 3-pointers. Caldwell is averaging a team-high 9.8 points per game. Cierra Tjaden adds 8.6 points per game. Buckner pulls down a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game, and she had totaled 44 steals. Her seven blocks are also a team high.
 
OC is currently 4-10 overall and 1-5 in the Heartland Conference. The Eagles defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State on Jan. 8 by the score of 86-47 in Oklahoma City. In their most recent contest, OC lost to Lubbock Christian, 69-64. Before last week's games, the Eagles started with four conference losses. OC fell to Texas-Permian, St. Edward's, St. Mary's and Texas A&M International. Leading the Eagles in scoring and rebounding is McKenzie Stanford at 16.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Logan McKee adds 13.3 points, and Sydney Hill totals 10.5 points per game. McKee has only appeared in six games, and she hasn't played since Nov. 29 against Arkansas Tech.
 
Tomorrow's game is the first of three straight road games. After playing at OC, the Jets travel to UA Fort Smith on Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Fort Smith, Ark.
