FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Newman women's basketball team take on UA Fort Smith tonight (Jan. 22) at 5:30 p.m. at Stubblefield Center. Live stats and video (S) will be available.
The Jets are currently on a three-game road trip that started last Thursday (Jan. 15) at Oklahoma Christian. NU fell, 60-52, at OC to end a two-game winning streak. Before the start of the road trip, the Jets won two straight games against Lubbock Christian (52-46) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (67-52). The Jets are currently 5-10 and 2-5 in the Heartland Conference. NU is 0-4 on the road.
Brianna Caldwell averages a team-high 9.7 points per game. She has hit a team-high 44 3-pointers in 15 games, shooting 35.8 percent.
Cierra Tjaden adds 8.8 points per game and 4.1 assist per game.
UAFS is currently 7-7 and 5-2 in the Heartland Conference. They have won six of their last eight games. In their most recent game, the Lions lost at Lubbock Christian by the score of 75-63. UAFS won four straight games before the setback. Jasmine Brainard scores a team-high 15.4 points per game and adds 4.8 rebounds per game. Angi Ramey averages a double-double of 10.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. Also averaging double figures at 10.8 points per game is Candice Followwell.
NU has a two-game winning streak in the series, sweeping the season series in 2013-14. The Jets have won three of the last four contests in the series.
After tonight's game, the Jets end their road trip at Rogers State on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
