NU Takes on UAFS in “Throwback Thursday” Game

WICHITA – The Newman women's basketball team takes on UA Fort Smith in its "Throwback Thursday" game at 5:30 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium. Live stats, video and audio will be available for the contest.
 
The Jets are currently 7-15 and 4-10 in the Heartland Conference. In their most recent contest, NU fell to Oklahoma Christian, 60-40, on Feb. 12 in Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets are in game two of a third game homestand, their last home games of the season. Brianna Caldwell leads the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game. Kesha Buckner totals 8.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game.
 
UAFS is currently No. 2 in the Heartland Conference with a 12-3 record. The Lions are 14-8 overall. With a victory tonight and a loss from St. Edward's, UAFS could clinch the No. 1 seed and host the Heartland Conference Tournament. Lubbock Christian, which ranks No. 1 in the conference, is not eligible for postseason play. The Lions have won seven of their last eight games with their only loss to LCU on Feb. 12. In their most recent contest, UAFS defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 93-76. Jasmine Brainard is the team's leading scoring at 14.9 points per game. Angi Ramey averages a double-double of 10.9 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.
 
In the first meeting between the two teams this season, UAFS won, 58-44, in Fort Smith, Ark. on Jan. 22. Caldwell scored a game-high 15 points on four 3s. Ramey totaled a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds.
 
After tonight's game, the Jets host Rogers State on Saturday (Feb. 21) at 1 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
