ODESSA, Texas – The Newman women's basketball team plays at Texas-Permian Basin at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Feb. 26) at the Falcon Dome. Live stats and video will be available for the contest.
The Jets are currently 8-16 and 5-11 in the Heartland Conference after getting a 51-41 win over Rogers State on Saturday (Feb. 21) at Fugate Gymnasium.
Brianna Caldwell scored a game-high 21 points, hitting five 3s.
Mali Wright added 14 points and
Kesha Buckner pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. NU's defense held The Hillcats to only 25 percent shooting, including only 20 percent in the second half.
Caldwell leads the team in scoring at 10 points per game. She is the only Jet averaging double figures in points.
Kesha Buckner leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 per game and she has 62 steals in 24 games.
The Falcons are currently 14-10 and 8-8 in the Heartland Conference. They have won two of their last three games with their most recent contest a loss, 88-53, at Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas. Before the loss, the Falcons picked up wins over St. Mary's and Oklahoma Panhandle State. Their offense is led by Valerie Barriga, who scores 17.6 points per game. Giselle Loya totals 12.5 points per game.
NU is only 1-7 on the road this season, getting its only road win at Rogers State, 53-52, on Jan. 14. The Jets are currently on a two-game road losing streak. UTPB is 6-3 at home.
In the two teams' previous meeting this season, the Falcons won, 49-44, in Wichita on Dec. 20, 2014. Barriga totaled a game-high 23 points.
The Jets travel to St. Edward's on Saturday (Feb. 28) for a 1 p.m. game in Austin, Texas.
